"Most people focus on the wrong thing: They focus on the result, not the process. The process is the sacrifice; it's all the hard parts--the sweat, the pain, the tears, the losses. You make the sacrifices anyway. You learn to enjoy them, or at least embrace them. In the end, it is the sacrifices that must fulfill you."
So often we lose health in the process of looking a certain way. Our society is inundated with pictures of beautiful people with six pack abs and taught hineys. As inspiring as it is for some people, it can be a trap to achieve something unrealistic. Beauty should be a side effect of good health.
Don't get me wrong, it is ok to want to look good. If you want a washboard stomach or massive shoulders work towards that goal. What I am saying is, the first and main goal should always be good health. Good health starts with a balanced nutritious diet with lots of fruits, veggies, and proteins. (If you eat hamburgers, chicken fingers, and pizza everyday you are not healthy, my friend, no matter how big your muscles are.) After you give that body some good fuel then the workout starts. It is recommended that adults participate in 150 minutes of structured moderate intensity physical activity or 75 minutes of intense activity per week.
With a balanced diet and staying active we allow our bodies to function the way God made them. Balance between diet and exercise allows us to feel good during the activities of our daily life, to play with our kids and be there for them as they grow up, and not be a burden on society with our own health problems. A great side effect of this is you look great, have a better mood and self confidence, and you can walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing.
